Our Mission
Meeting people where they are β no barriers, no requirements, just dignity and care.
Sling of David INC. is a nonprofit organization based in Pinellas County, Florida, dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness through direct, hands-on street outreach.
"Every meal shared, every bottle of water handed out, every small act of kindness is another stone in the sling."
WHY STREET OUTREACH MATTERS
Many community outreach programs for people experiencing homelessness require individuals to travel to a facility to receive services. This creates significant barriers for those who need help most. A large percentage of people experiencing homelessness struggle with mental health conditions that make navigating unfamiliar systems deeply difficult. Many have no access to transportation, making travel to a fixed location impossible. Others may feel unsafe or unwelcome in institutional settings.
At Sling of David, we eliminate those barriers entirely. We go to them. We seek out people where they are β on the streets, in parks, under bridges β and we provide them with a nutritious meal they can eat at their own pace, in a place where they already feel safe. No appointments. No requirements. No judgment.
WHY MREs?
We distribute U.S. military-grade MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) because they are self-contained, require no preparation, and provide substantial, balanced nutrition. Each MRE delivers ample sustenance for an individual in need:
NUTRITIONAL BREAKDOWN β PER MRE
Source: Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), U.S. Department of Defense. A standard MRE provides approximately 1/3 of the Military Recommended Daily Allowance for vitamins and minerals. Three MREs per day provide approximately 3,600β3,750 kcal, meeting the nutritional needs of individuals in high-stress environments. www.dla.mil
Each MRE is a complete, balanced meal in a single package β providing real nutrition, real energy, and real dignity to someone in need.
