What We Do

We go directly to people experiencing homelessness on the streets of Pinellas County and provide them with MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) and bottled water β€” because no one should go hungry or thirsty.

For just $6, you can feed and hydrate one person in need. Every dollar goes directly to the mission.

Sling of David INC. is a nonprofit organization based in Pinellas County, Florida, dedicated to serving people experiencing homelessness through direct, hands-on street outreach.

"Every meal shared, every bottle of water handed out, every small act of kindness is another stone in the sling."

WHY STREET OUTREACH MATTERS

Many community outreach programs for people experiencing homelessness require individuals to travel to a facility to receive services. This creates significant barriers for those who need help most. A large percentage of people experiencing homelessness struggle with mental health conditions that make navigating unfamiliar systems deeply difficult. Many have no access to transportation, making travel to a fixed location impossible. Others may feel unsafe or unwelcome in institutional settings.

At Sling of David, we eliminate those barriers entirely. We go to them. We seek out people where they are β€” on the streets, in parks, under bridges β€” and we provide them with a nutritious meal they can eat at their own pace, in a place where they already feel safe. No appointments. No requirements. No judgment.

WHY MREs?

We distribute U.S. military-grade MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) because they are self-contained, require no preparation, and provide substantial, balanced nutrition. Each MRE delivers ample sustenance for an individual in need:

NUTRITIONAL BREAKDOWN β€” PER MRE

~1,250Calories (kcal)
40–45gProtein
47–50gFat
170–176gCarbohydrates
1/3 MRDAVitamins & Minerals

Source: Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), U.S. Department of Defense. A standard MRE provides approximately 1/3 of the Military Recommended Daily Allowance for vitamins and minerals. Three MREs per day provide approximately 3,600–3,750 kcal, meeting the nutritional needs of individuals in high-stress environments. www.dla.mil

Each MRE is a complete, balanced meal in a single package β€” providing real nutrition, real energy, and real dignity to someone in need.

Photos of our outreach coming soon

Our name comes from one of the most iconic stories in the Bible. When the giant Goliath was terrorizing the Israelite army and no soldier dared to fight him, a young shepherd named David stepped forward with nothing but a slingshot and his faith in God β€” and changed everything. He saved an entire nation with one small, courageous act.

That's exactly what we believe: small actions, done faithfully, create massive change.

The problem of homelessness can feel like a giant β€” overwhelming, entrenched, impossible to defeat. But we believe that every MRE handed out, every bottle of water shared, every moment of human connection is a stone from the sling. One by one, these small acts of faith add up to something extraordinary.

We started with nothing but a mission and a belief that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Before we were even formally incorporated as Sling of David INC., we were already on the streets of Pinellas County, feeding people and handing out water. Because the need doesn't wait β€” and neither do we.

We don't ask for anything from the people we serve. We don't require them to come to us. We seek them out, meet them where they are, and offer them a meal and water with no strings attached. That's it. That's the whole mission. And we believe it can change the world β€” one stone at a time.

At Sling of David INC., we believe every donor deserves to know exactly where their money goes. This page is updated regularly to reflect every penny spent in service of our mission. Nothing is hidden. Nothing is wasted. Every dollar you give feeds someone in need.
